Our Credentials

Experience matters — but how you learned matters even more.

At Highbrow Ranch, our approach is built on more than years in the saddle. It’s built on understanding how people actually learn, especially as adults stepping into something new.

With over 20 years of riding and teaching experience, and as a John Maxwell Certified Coach, our program blends horsemanship expertise with proven leadership and teaching principles. The result is an encouraging, confidence-focused environment where beginners feel supported rather than judged.

A Different Path to Mastery

One of the things that sets Highbrow Ranch apart is this:
I did not start with natural talent.

Every skill I developed came from learning how to truly understand riding — not just doing it, but breaking it down, struggling through it, and eventually mastering it through clarity and repetition. That process shaped the way I teach today.

Because I had to learn riding from the inside out, I know how to explain it in a way that makes sense to beginners. I know where people get stuck, what feels confusing, and how to guide someone forward without pressure.

That perspective is at the heart of everything we do.

A Foundation of Horsemanship

The Evans family’s background spans decades in the western horse industry and multiple disciplines, creating a deep and well-rounded understanding of horses.

Our experience includes:

  • Collegiate National Championships in Western Horsemanship
  • World Championship titles earned within the last decade
  • Texas State Championships on the rodeo circuit
  • Raising and developing world-champion-quality race horses, rodeo horses, and show horses

This breadth of experience informs our program — but it never overshadows the learner. Our focus is not on showcasing achievement, but on using that knowledge to create safe, thoughtful, beginner-friendly experiences.

How This Benefits Our Riders

When you ride at Highbrow Ranch, you’re learning from someone who:

  • Knows how to break riding down into understandable steps
  • Teaches with patience, encouragement, and clarity
  • Understands both horse behavior and human emotions
  • Matches each rider with the right horse for comfort and confidence
  • Prioritizes safety, understanding, and connection over performance

Our goal is not to turn you into a rider overnight. It’s to give you a positive, grounded first experience — one that makes riding feel possible and enjoyable.

Our Teaching Philosophy

At Highbrow Ranch, we believe confidence comes before competence.

By creating a calm, supportive environment and pairing it with exceptional horses, we give riders the opportunity to learn without fear or intimidation. Questions are welcomed, progress is individual, and every experience is designed to leave you feeling more capable than when you arrived.

We’re proud to share our horses, our knowledge, and our approach with every guest who steps onto the ranch.
